After spending a year of high school buried under school work, long mornings in the libraries, and long nights spent studying, I'm looking to do something creative. I figured I would do something like, read a bunch of books, or maybe learn how to cook all kinds of intricate dishes, I considered trying to write a book; I just wanted to do something besides sitting around all summer. What did I decide to do? Well, I decided to do everything. And that starts with goals, good old goals, "people that write out goals are 75% more likely to achieve their goals." - any sixth grade teacher.
My Summer Goals:
- I want to finish my AP summer assignments before the, night before the, first day of school. Actually I'd (stop using contractions too...) like to finish them before August.
- I want to read. Not just read, read read read read read. Should I set a goal of books to read? A number of pages to read? Hmmm. Well, there are ~3 months of summer, thats about 90 days or 12 weeks. So what if I read a book a week, thats 12 books. I think that will be my goal, 12 books.
- So that brings us to food. I really want to learn how to cook a few diverse cultural dishes, I know that must sound silly for a teenager, but I just love food that much! I think I want to learn how to prepare, traditional arab dishes, such as hummus, mint tea, and seasoned lamb, some asian potluck dishes, and South African food.
- This might be the most unrealistic one: writing a book. I do not have a plot line or characters, events, themes, ect. However, I have always been a decent writer, and how hard could it be?
- I also am going to start applying for scholarships. I want to get 10 this summer.
- Studying for the Sat and retaking it in September is obviously important.
- I also want to work for a political campaign this summer in addition to an internship at a law firm.
- There are more, I think I'll gradually add them to this list and write a reflection at the end of the summer.. But for the most part, I want to have a summer full of experiences, I want to say yes to everything.
- I guess it is a given, but Im also looking to maintain this blog, posting at least once a day.
Side note -
I do not expect anyone to read this, and for the most part I do not want anyone to either, this is like a journal for me. A way to express and vent, a way to make sure I do everything I want to this summer. If anyone does read, well feel free to ask and comment, but for the most part this is all for me.
